Where do we begin?

I believe that we all want the basic things life has to offer. Love, peace in our families and neighborhoods and the freedom to express what is important without fear of harm or retribution are common ideals. I believe in the balance of all things. The pendulum always swings back and forth with its attempt to reach the stillness of center. It is never a matter of when, it is always a matter of how much. To what extent and at what speed is always the question and the answer is always up to us. The stillness of center is healing and that is where we must begin. We must be still.

The imbalance that exists right now is not the result of a few years or a few elections. It is the result of decades of lost dreams, sacrificed hopes and abandoned visions for a better and greater life. If we are to heal, we must heal ourselves. We must stop making others responsible. The time has come, with a clarion call, that such restoration must take place for each one of us. Then, and only then, will we be able to help each other cross the lines that divide us so strongly right now.

There is work to be done. Hard work. And we have to start. Now. All that we hold dear and have grown accustomed to will be challenged. Nothing and no-one will be spared. We must use the forces that seek to tear us apart to make us stronger, more compassionate and more tolerant. We must look within ourselves for the truth and divorce ourselves from the reality created by lies and illusions. Such reality is a weak attempt at power and control. We are better than that. We are stronger than that. We have just lost our way.

Let us begin again. Let us be still and know that we are healing.
