Orange full moons in sequence, like the Harvest Moon supermoon
On the evening of Tuesday, September 17th, the Harvest Moon will rise, promising a bigger and brighter supermoon this year! Unlike other full moons, the “Harvest Moon” is the one closest to the autumnal equinox, whether it falls in September or October. Traditionally, September’s full moon is called the Harvest Moon, but if October’s full moon is closer to the equinox, it takes the name, and September’s becomes the Corn Moon. Historically, this moon has provided farmers with ample light to gather the last of their summer crops, celebrating the fall harvest. The September full moon is also known by various names: the Corn Harvest Moon (Dakota), Moon of Brown Leaves (Lakota), and Falling Leaves Moon (Ojibwe). With the “official” start of fall on the 22nd, this Harvest Moon will be the last full moon of summer 2024. Enjoy the view! Here’s to the Health of your Life.
