Post #25 Traditional Chinese Medicine’s Fifth Season-Late Summer

Starting around the third week of August and lasting until the autumnal equinox, late summer marks its presence in the Northern Hemisphere. This period is seen as a bridge between the expansive energy of summer and the contracting forces of fall, offering a unique opportunity to both reflect and prepare.

In this fifth season, yang energy is transitioning into yin. While daytime temperatures may still be high, nights are becoming cooler and less humid. The 18-day doyo period which spans the transition between these two seasons, is crucial for strengthening our defenses in preparation for winter.

Linked with the Earth element, it’s beneficial to nurture and support our Spleen and Stomach’s digestive abilities to stay grounded and centered. Prioritizing rest, choosing nourishing and seasonal foods, keeping the body’s core warm and content, and focusing on harmony and mindfulness are essential practices during this seasonal shift.
