While the full moon of April pays homage to the pink blossoms of that month, the Flower Moon of May pays tribute to Mother Nature’s vast array of blooming abundance this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere. Making its official arrival on May 23rd, it is the fifth full moon of the year, when Earth sits right between the Sun and Moon every 29 days or so.
The name “Flower Moon”, first used by the Algonquins, is also known as the Month of Flowers by Dakotas, Frog Moon by Cree, and celebrated as Buddha Purnima in Asian cultures.
Just a reminder that symbolically, a full moon can represent completion and a time to reflect on the past month. It can offer a moment in time to reestablish goals and commitments. Perhaps providing a little space and breathing room to reevaluate what is working and not working in our lives.
Regardless of what we call the full moon or what we believe it represents, try to take just sixty seconds out of your day to stop, breathe, and look up. The promise of nature’s beauty surrounds us all.
