#67 What to do with a New Year

Did you ever notice the night before, on the night of December 31st, the world is full of infinite possibilities? Life is full of potential. There is a lot of celebrating because the future looks immensely bright. A new year always brings hope. Resolutions are written down. Promises are made with enthusiastic certainty. Success in all things seems like a real probability the night before, on the night of December 31st.
Did you ever notice in the morning, the morning of January 1st, that nearly everything looks the same and feels the same? In fact, most everything is just like it was yesterday. The sun rises, you get up and you start your day. Just like every other day before. You realize the resolutions you made the night before might be more possible than probable and in a month or two or maybe three, the only thing probable is that they will be forgotten. What happened to all that enthusiasm and certainty? Was it all just wishful thinking on that night before the morning of?
Perhaps there is another way to approach the New Year and it begins the night before. Use New Year’s Eve as a chance to dream again. Think outside the box you created to hold your life and the kaleidoscope of pieces that fill it. Reconnecting to what is important to you and focusing on what you have instead of what you lack provides the space that supports creativity. This is a good place to start. Being grateful increases your chance of being successful as does enthusiasm and certainty. The same enthusiasm and certainty you had New Year’s Eve. Try doing this all year regardless of the situation and see what happens.
Here’s to the Health of your Life.
