How much pesticide would you like with your fruits and veggies?
Every year the Environmental Working Group, EWG, compiles a list of the top 12 fruits and vegetables that contain the most pesticides. By diving deep into the information provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), EWG concluded that of the sampled, conventionally grown, fresh vegetables and fruits, 75 percent contained pesticides that might be harmful. Of those that made the Dirty Dozen list, 95 percent contained pesticides that might be harmful.
Buying organic produce would eliminate the need to worry about pesticides. If that is not an option, try the following steps to clean your fruits and vegetables. After washing your hands and making sure all utensils are clean, it is recommended to simply [1] hold the item in the sink that is slightly filled with cold water, [2] gently remove all dirt with a clean paper towel, and [3] using a second clean paper towel, dry the produce.
