There are usually 12, sometimes 13, full moons throughout the year, when the Earth sits between the sun and the moon. Names have been given to the moon reflecting our relationship to what is happening here on Earth. Moon nicknames can have religious origins or indicate the return of certain animals or various natural events.
The Worm Moon (Farmer’s Almanac), Paschal Moon (Christianity), Crow Moon (Northern Ojibwe), and Little Grass Sore-Eye Moon (Dakota and Lakota) all refer to the first full moon of Spring.
This year the first full moon of the season occurs on the night of Sunday, March 24th.
So, look up, enjoy, and marvel at our relationship to all that is.
